Deolinda – “Doldos”

Deolinda, “Doidos” (2013)

I don’t keep an albums list because who cares, but if I did, Deolinda’s Mundo Pequenino (small world) would be near the top of my 2013 list. They’re a Lisbon indie-folk outfit with a lot invested in traditional Portuguese instrumentation and songcraft (though they only rarely dip into pure fado, the best-known traditional Portuguese genre). “Doidos” (crazy) is the only time on the album they deviate from their established acoustic-stringed-instruments sound, though the brass and winds still partake in traditional festive forms.

Another excellent find from the ears of Jonathan. I consider his discerning ears a limited national resource and am glad he rations out little dollops of approved ear candy on a regular basis.
